Culinary medicine represents an integration of culinary arts and medicine that applies practical knowledge and skills to improve food and nutrition-related health. This approach combines the expertise of chefs, physicians, dietitians, and other health professionals to offer health-promoting and enjoyable culinary experiences as a component of clinical care. Through engaging culinary experiences and our technology platform, we help medical practices enhance patient engagement and care satisfaction, improve condition management, and promote overall health and well-being.

Join us for an interactive workshop designed to elevate your culinary medicine skills! Led by a duo expert culinary dietitians, you’ll learn how to translate nutrition education into actionable, engaging food experiences for diverse audiences. The session begins with an overview of culinary medicine fundamentals, followed by a kitchen orientation and safety review. In small groups, you’ll prepare and taste three recipes with real-time guidance on teaching different populations. A Q&A and discussion will wrap up the session, providing insights to enhance your teaching or build a culinary medicine program. Connect, learn, and grow in a fun, collaborative environment!

Melanya Kushla, MS, RD, CHES is a creative, strategic, and visionary registered dietitian and certified health education specialist with a culinary background, serving the U.S. and Canada. As a global leader in the culinary medicine field, she specializes in the design and facilitation of health-related behavior change programs via teaching kitchens. Melanya is the founder of Taste & Thrive LLC where she provides her nutrition and health education services via contract for a variety of healthcare, nonprofit, and educational entities. Prior to this, she served 10 years at the U.S. Veterans Health Administration’ leading the National Healthy Teaching Kitchen program.

Christina Badaracco, MPH, RDN, LDN

Christina works as a healthcare consultant, author, and thought leader, applying her expertise in healthcare and public health research, policy, and practice to improve care delivery and health outcomes. She also regularly writes, teaches, and develops trainings and programs about nutrition, culinary medicine, and sustainable agriculture—including directing award-winning and innovative culinary medicine programs and trainings and coauthoring Mix It Up, a culinary medicine cookbook. Christina previously worked for Avalere, a healthcare advisory firm, and the EPA, Teaching Kitchen Collaborative, Oakland Unified School District, and NIH. Christina holds various leadership roles within the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Slow Food.
